Asia Disruptive Technology Conference summary

The inaugural Asia summit convened family offices and allocators on disruptive technology exposure across East Asian markets.

Event summary

GDA Capital held the inaugural Asia Disruptive Investment Summit, following the success of the Europe Disruptive Investment Summit earlier that year. The lineup consisted of some of the most influential people in the space, including OUL Capital founder Billy So, Kenetic managing partner Jehan Chu, MEX Digital COO Zak Taher, Elitium CEO Raoul Milhado, Tokens.com CEO Andrew Kiguel, Master Ventures CEO Kyle Chasse, and GDA’s Jean-Luc Gustave and Michael Gord.

Alongside the lineup, the event gathered investors and family office communities with the goal of fostering new opportunities and connections between them, alongside entrepreneurs in the digital asset space.

A panel on family offices and disruptive technology featured Jean-Luc Gustave, Vice President, Asia at Global Digital Assets; Patrick Ng, investment manager at Soul Capital; and Baron Nicholas Verwilghen, chief investment officer at 1741 Fund Solutions AG. They discussed how families managed exposure to high-growth asset classes while preserving their reputation, and the generational divide in how that exposure is underwritten. A Fidelity survey cited at the summit found that 22% of more than 400 institutional investors, including family offices and foundations, had explored investment products relating to digital assets.

A second panel on disruptive technology investment in East Asia featured Jehan Chu, Michael ByungSun Hwang of Bigbang Angels, and Michael Gord. Discussion covered listed-company activity on the Korean exchange, the divergence between government policy and market flows, and China’s national blockchain infrastructure initiative as a permissioned architecture for cross-border application deployment.
